Used Storage Sheds

If you’ve been looking for an outdoor storage shed at the most affordable price, should you consider a used storage shed?

Unfortunately, the best answer is not “yes or no”, but “maybe”.  It really boils down to the kind of deal you can get and how long you are willing to wait.  The three best places to search for available used storage sheds are:

•    EBay
•    Craigslist
•    Classified Ads in a Local Newspaper

While the number of offerings you’ll find at any of these sources will vary from time to time, there are almost always at least a few to look at.  Few sellers will be willing to ship a used storage shed but both EBay and Craigslist have local search so you can narrow your choices to those you can pick up yourself in a cost effective manner.

Outdoor storage sheds come in metal, wood, or resin construction.  An important factor to consider when evaluating used storage sheds is how the shed is put together.  Most wooden sheds would be too difficult to take apart, transport, and then reassemble, to be practical.

Metal sheds or resin sheds would be your best bets and both have advantages and disadvantages.  Metal sheds tend to be heavier and more durable, but can begin to rust over time if the initial protective coating is of low quality.

Resin sheds don’t rust but they do fade and can become brittle in spots from exposure to the sun.  Generally speaking, resin sheds would be easier to take apart than metal sheds.

Another consideration to keep in mind is whether or not the used storage shed you’re considering is anchored to the ground.  In heavy winds outdoor storage sheds can blow away so many homeowners take measures to better secure their sheds against that possibility.  This is particularly true of lighter resin sheds.  If the shed is mounted on a platform, does the price include the platform or not?  Will the seller dissemble the shed for your or not?

Regardless of the construction, you’re going to want the seller to supply a lot of pictures of the condition of the shed or do an on-site inspection if practical.  While the offered price of used storage sheds may seem very affordable, don’t forget to factor in your own time in inspecting the shed, and getting it home and set up.  If you believe time is money, the actual price you pay for a used storage shed may not be the cheapest deal you can get.

Buying any used product is largely a matter of chance.  You have to get a little lucky and have the time and patience to do a lot of searching and find a great deal on a used storage shed.
